Cocktail Calories

First, you need to know how alcohol is used by the body. Alcohol metabolism differs from any of the other calorie containing nutrients—fat, sugar and protein. Alcohol isn’t digested along the gastrointestinal tract. It goes directly from your stomach and intestines to your bloodstream and impacts the entire body. Meanwhile, your liver suppresses glucose production while metabolizing alcohol. None of it turns to sugar (as you mentioned in your question) although some sources, like beer, liqueurs and wine coolers, contain considerable amounts of it.

In order to determine which beverage has the least calories, you need to know what a one drink serving of alcohol is. Each serving of alcohol has about 14 grams of pure ethanol. Each gram of alcohol contains about seven calories (compared to nine calories per gram of fat and four calories per gram of carbohydrate or protein). The serving sizes and calorie content of common alcohol products are:

One shot or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits contain 100 calories
Twelve ounces of regular beer contains 150 calories
Five ounces of wine contains 100 calories
Liqueurs vary and can have 100 calories or more per ounce
Wine coolers vary by product
Keep in mind that any other mixers in your cocktail will increase your calorie consumption.

A little bit of drink can take you a long way. There are proven health effects of alcohol like the heart-health promoting effects of red wines. Also, there is research that suggests that drinking alcohol in moderation—up to one drink per day for women and up to two per day in men—can reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes and hypertension. However, too much of a good thing can have the opposite effect.

Be a conscientious drinker. Know how alcohol is used by the body and what a standard serving size is. More important, know your own personal limits with alcohol and don’t over-drink.

Sharing Pictures Over The Web

Three things are necessary for this: the digital pictures that are being sent; a computer with Internet access; and a picture editing, and an email program.

To reduce the resolution, first open the picture in the editing program such as PhotoResizer, an easy to use software that you can download for free, from ShowYourPhotos.com.

The next step is to open the Image Size or Resize box - usually located in the toolbar menu. If the pictures are to be printed, set the resolution at 225 dpi or ppi. If the pictures are going to be viewed on screen, set it at 72 ppi or dpi. Also, remember to constrain the proportions, as the picture will appear to be lop-sided otherwise.

Something to remember is that the higher the resolution, the better quality the picture will be on the other end. And by reducing the size of the picture, the time will be lessened to send it, so a good size is 3x5 or 4x6 in the Image Size. Click Ok, then Save As - giving the picture a new file name, saving it under JPEG. This saves the original photo for future use. Once you open the email program, attach the photo, so remember where you saved it.

If you have several photos that you want to share, you can use a web-based photo album and control access to it with a password. If you want someone to see an album, e-mail a link to them that allows them to access it. There is no need for attachments and no slow uploads or downloads.

For more control over your photos, you can maintain your photo albums at your own website. Hosting can cost as little as $50 a year. Some of the paid Web hosting services you can consider are Webshots, Pbase and Photosig. Another one is Kodakgallery.com where they walk a person through putting together an online album.

You can also use an online printing service like Club Photo, which will keep your online photo album for $25 a year. It will also take orders for prints from people you allow to access your albums for a fee. Prints can also be ordered on cards, calendars, mugs, etc. There is not a thing that cannot be done with digital photographs online for birthdays, holidays, or special events.

Miss France in trouble

Valerie Begue, from the French-run Indian Ocean island of Reunion, was selected Miss France 2008 earlier this month. But she has refused to resign, saying she had been betrayed.

Before the competition, contestants assure that they have never been photographed in compromising positions. But, one of the pictures shows Valerie licking yoghurt provocatively, while another has her floating on a wooden cross in a swimming pool.

Following the surfacing of the pictures, President of the Miss France contest, Genevieve de Fontenay, went on French radio to demand that Valerie would have to stand down, or would be stripped of her crown. "If she had some courage and a bit of dignity she would say 'I'm resigning because I'm not worthy to carry on as Miss France'," the Australian quoted Genevieve, as telling Europe 1 radio.

She went on to say that if she had been aware of the pictures, Valerie "would never have been let into the Miss France competition. I wouldn't want to be seen touring the provinces with a girl like that."

Free Dating Sites right

How to decide if you are ready to explore free dating sites?

How much time one should wait after a relationship has soured or if you have lost a loved one, before they begin dating again, is a much debated question. However, different people have different opinions on the same. Some are ready to hit the dating scene early while others take a long time. It is up to the individual to decide the same. One way to test the waters is to take advantage of the umpteen numbers of free dating sites available today!

How do you decide if the free dating sites are the right way to go? Well, there is no way to tell till you have tried and tested it! There is more to these sites than meets the eye. Registering on free dating sites does not mean that you have to fall in love with the next person you like. These sites also offer opportunities to connect intimately with people just over the Internet. It is a well known fact that you can connect much more freely over the Internet as you control how far you get involved with other people. Moreover, it is also true that anonymity makes a person braver and you can share a lot more with strangers you are not likely to meet or get to know in the real world. In this case, what the free dating sites offer is a chance to find and develop close bonds of friendship with virtual strangers with whom you can be honest and upfront and share your problems and joys with without the risk of being judged. Cyber friendships are more common today with the new age of Internet permeating the fabric of society. Many people have experienced this new way of finding close friendships on free dating sites which have flourished not just for weeks or months, but for years!

You can be a part of the cyber dating world anytime you wish. There are no set rules. Some people use cyber dating as a comfort tool as well, to regain lost confidence after failed relationships. Others have resorted to free dating sites to find reassurance and courage to move on after traumatic breakups or losses of loved ones. And many others have just been looking for acceptance of who they are in reality. Age has never been a barrier when taking advantage of cyber dating. People of all ages and ethnicities are online today, with the common goal of finding love, romance and friendship on the Internet.

The next time you are looking for any of these, try to test the waters with Internet dating. Register on the free dating sites and experience what many others already have! They are merely a social tool to extend yourself to the world while you enrich your life with strong friendships, love and romance. And there is no real way of knowing what is right for you, till you have experienced it!

HAVE A NICE DATING!

Fast Food, Slow Death?

Choose Your Menu Items With Care

Choose a main dish item that is low in fat. As an example, when faced with the choice of a bacon cheeseburger or a regular hamburger, the regular hamburger wins every time. In the battle of the regular hamburger or the grilled chicken breast sandwich the chicken wins hands down. Why? Here's an example:

Wendy's Ultimate Chicken Grill Sandwich has 360 calories, 7 grams of fat, and 0 trans fat. Compare that to the Wendy's Big Bacon Classic which has 580 calories, 29 grams of fat and 1.5 grams of trans fat. Put either choice with a medium fry and you have added another 440 calories and another 21 grams of fat. Choose, instead, the Baked Potato with Sour Cream and Chive and you add 320 calories and 4 grams of fat. Still a great lunch or dinner and a much more nutritious choice indeed.

Choose side salads and salad bar vegetables as these provide extra vitamins and add dietary fiber. In addition they fill you up without adding lots of extra calories. Be sure to use low fat or non-fat dressing or, better still, a simple vinaigrette dressing. More dietary fiber can be found in the choice of whole wheat or whole grain buns and rolls.

If your sweet tooth kicks in have fresh fruit or frozen yogurt. Or go for the reduced fat ice cream versus the shake. Again an example, this time from McDonald's: 16 oz. Triple Thick Vanilla Shake has 550 calories and 13 grams of fat. The Vanilla Reduced Fat Ice Cream Cone has 150 calories and only 3.5 grams of fat. Granted the lower calories alternative is not as decadent but it also will not clog your arteries by increasing your cholesterol intake and it will satisfy the sugar craving.

Watch Your Portion Size

Portion control is also a key element to successful fast food dining. Although many restaurants have discontinued the super size trend, most portions are simply more than we need to consume. These large portions look like real value when viewed in the monetary sense but when measured by way of their contribution to weight gain and its complications they are simply not worth it.

Choose the smallest size possible especially if you are having hamburgers or fried foods.

Share large or high fat items with someone else.

Eat half your order and take the rest home. Yes, I know we are supposed to clean our plates because there are children starving in China. At least that's what many mothers over the years have been heard to say. The fact is being a member of the Clean Plate Club will also get you entry into the Fat Club, the High Cholesterol Club, and if your really fortunate the Heart Disease Club.

Remember These 3 Key Points

1. Reduce total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, and sodium
2. Increase intake of whole grains
3. Eat more fruits and vegetables

Fast food is one of the great innovations of the 20th century. Here in the 21st century we need to manage how we take advantage of its limitless access. To do so will maintain a balance between food as satisfying fuel that keeps our human engine running and toxic waste that will eventually lead to shorten life spans.

Free Online Movies And Video Entertainment

Free movie downloads are a cheap way to see a popular movie without spending a dime but even though free movie downloads save money, they do have disadvantages. For instance, if you dont have a broadband connection to the Internet and a large hard disk, you cant download and store movies on your computer. Movies are large files and it takes time to download them and they require a lot of space to store.

Commercials and movie trailers of sequels and blockbusters are flooding us from everywhere. Posters announce that so many famous actors and actresses are starring in a new movie but this cant deceive film addicts because they have already learnt to separate advertising from the real value of the movie. For movie addicts it is more important what the plot is about because if the plot is not good, there is no need to be excited about watching one more average movie.

Despite the fact that people like free movie downloads, nothing compares to watching great movies in the movie theater. Of course, the big screen is not the only alternative of free movie downloads. For instance, you can buy a DVD from the local video shop. Buying DVDs is a good alternative, if you are not a technical freak, who likes using DVD authoring and burning software to produce movies with DVD quality.

There is no doubt that for people who like to avoid any additional costs, getting movies for free is better or even the best option of acquiring new movies. But if you really want to see good pics and clear audio, then movie theatres are a much better alternative. Still, movie theatres are the best way to enjoy a movie, even though you must sacrifice part of your time and leisure. But when you go to the movie theater, you will find there many like-minded people.

The quality of newly released movies is varying and you can read about all this in movie reviews. Movie reviews give you detailed information about what to expect from a movie and movie fans dont miss to read reviews. But even when you know all about a movie, it is nice to go and watch it and see if the movie reviews are true. For instance, you might not like a special plot twist, used by the movie maker to make the movie more interesting.

Movie downloads do not really make you a cheapskate. For one, being practical in watching movies and waiting for them to be available in personal editions is still a given. Many people enjoy movies so dont be surprised to see a lot of them having movies stored in their computer or bundled in discs for them to watch over and over again.

Myspace Layout Site Review

Yes, it is true. Many major brands are using Myspace as a free advertising medium. And yes it's true, there are a great many dirt bags lurking in the shadows of Myspace waiting for an unsuspecting and equally naive user to fall into their trap. But, for the most part, Myspace has proven to be extremely useful and it is obvious the function will not be going away any time soon.

So, what do we do now. What the heck, let us enjoy it. And in doing so, there is no better way to enjoy Myspace, or related sites, than the many resource sites that have popped up over the past few years. I am going to give you my thoughts on some of the top sites and some of the up and comers of this growing industry. I'll start with the big dog, myspacesupport.com.

Myspacesupport.com

This site was one of the first to come on the scene a few years back. The owner is based out Colorado and does a good job of indexing thousands of layouts. You can create an account and publish your own, if you feel like spending the time. Of course, make sure your pop-up blocker is on as many adds will post as soon as you arrive.

He has recently posted a new feature that includes Myspace layout videos which seems rather interesting. All of the other standard tool features are present and the site is indexing is very quick.

Overall, I give this site an A on its implementation and is definitely worth visiting.

Skize.com

My first example was one that shows what should be done. Size.com is an example of what should be avoided. This site is nothing more than a pointer to other people's work. It is full of useless Myspace reference text sections in order to place high in google search rankings (which it does well) yet doesn't actually provide anything useful to the user. These types of sites are terrible and should be avoided at all costs as you never know what software will end up dumping to your system as soon as you visit.

Overall, I give this site a big F. It should be avoided at all costs.

Mybuzzcut.com

This is an example of an 'up and comer' as it is new to the scene and has steadily been improving. The nicest feature on this Myspace site is the World Map Tracker that lets you see graphically who has visited your Myspace page. Additionally, This site has loads of custom sports themes including NFL, NBA and others. It was a bit slow when it first came out, but the latest release seems to have addressed performance issues. This site will get better over time.

My score for Mybuzzcut.com is a B but I think over time it will get better.

Myspace.org

Believe it or not, but this website is a Myspace resource site. I'm not sure how Myspace allowed for the .org extension to be taken. From a functional perspective, this site is very good. It has a good deal of content and it is extremely responsive, even though it consistently gets tons of traffic. It does a good job of showing some new additions on a regular basis.

That was the good. The bad has to do with advertising. It uses SO much you almost can't use the site. I was very disappointed on the aggressive nature of the advertising used on the site. It really isn't necessary. I have he changes this method.

Overall, I give this site a B-. It should have been an A, if it was not for the ads.

I hope this information is useful. For the most part, the top Myspace resource sites are very cool. They allow users of all skill level to make basic .html changes to their site to continue to customize, much like you would a car or a home. Nothing wrong with options.

How To Tune A Guitar

There are many different ways to approach guitar tuning. We'll touch on a couple of the more effective methods on how to tune a guitar. Not necessarily the most popular as some methods, though extensively used, are considered 'bad habits' rather than genuine, effective guitar tuning alternatives.

The guitar standard tuning is as follows:

STRING - 6th String (bottom, bass, low) NOTE - E
5th String - A
4th String - D
3rd String - G
2nd String - B
1st String (top, treble, high) - E

Tips For Any Guitar Tuning Method

First, lets cover a few things that every player should know when taking the proper approach to guitar tuning and how to learn to tune guitar.

Learn to attach the strings to the machine heads properly. Never try to tune down to a note. Stretch the strings and tune up to the note. Tuning heads have a certain amount of 'play' in them so make a couple of deep bends and then fine tune the string. Before tuning a suspect string, check it against both adjacent strings to determine which string is actually out of tune. The string you suspect may not even be the culprit. When tuning a guitar with a vibrato arm, tune the string, give the arm a good shake, stretch the string, give the arm another shake and fine tune.

Veterans of guitar playing will already know these things so if you're a beginner and just learning to play the guitar, you're already ahead of the game if you implement these practices into your routine. For a great tool visit http://www.guitarmusician.com/guitar-tuner.htm

Here's A Quick Method For Guitar Tuning

Tune the treble (high) E string to an A440 tuning fork by holding your finger on the 5th fret, then tune the open B string to the open treble E string – listening to the interval of a fourth. It's easy to hear the fourth in that register.

Play the A note fretted at the 2nd fret of the G string, and compare it to the open treble E string – you're listening for a perfect fifth interval.

Fret the 2nd fret E note on the D string and compare it to the treble E string open. Double check this by fretting the E note on the 14th fret of the D string.

Now tune the 7th fret harmonic on the A string (an E note) to the open treble E string.

Finally, tune the 5th fret harmonic on the bass E string to the open treble E string.

This is a simple guitar tuning method that works well.

21 tips for lean living which will easily reduce those extra pounds.

There is a term in the business world called lean manufacturing, but lean living can be adapted to reduce your weight similar to how lean manufacturing reduces business inefficiencies.

Below are 21 tips for lean living which will easily reduce those extra pounds.

1. Never watch television and eat. It is too comfortable and more food will be consumed than sitting down.
2. Use smaller plates. Sounds silly, but it works.
3. Drink two glasses of water 10-15 minutes before eating. You will get full on less food, not feel deprived, and become lean in no time.
4. Stop eating before you are full. You know the feeling after you keep eating until full. Thirty minutes later you can’t move.
5. Walk up and down stairs rather than taking the elevator. It burns calories, provides exercise, and helps you become lean without working at it.
6. Exercise at least 3 times per week and follow the advice of a physician. When possible, alternate intensity levels to burn more calories.
7. Join a gym. It is much easier to sustain working out in a gym atmosphere rather than at home.
8. Clean your house. It burns lots of calories and gets your house clean. Remind yourself of the calorie loss and cleaning isn’t nearly as much a drag.
9. Walk anywhere and everywhere. Commit to walking around the block, to the store, a friend’s house, and anywhere else. You’ll be leaner in no time.
10. When you eat meat, choose lower calorie types, such as turkey or chicken. For sandwiches, use the same in lunch meat.
11. Never use mayo or butter. Find something you like. For example, there are hundreds of different types of mustard with various tastes that have minimal calories.
12. Don’t fry anything.
13. Find a whole grain bread that you like. Don’t keep the fattening kind in the house to tempt yourself.
14. Add toppings to sandwiches that have few calories, such as peppers, pickles, onions, lettuce, and tomatoes.
15. Every couple days, eat one meal that has hardly any calories, such as a salad with minimal dressing.
16. Eat only fruit and vegetables for occasional meals.
17. Switch to no fat butter or stop using any.
18. Find a drink you like without calories (such as water). Carry a water bottle at all times. Drinking water throughout the day hydrates, keeps you fuller, and helps to eat less.
19. Pick a goal. Visualize what you will look like in that suit, dress, skirt, pants, etc. Remember the book “You Become What You Think About”. The brain can’t think about something without doing those things that help you get there.
20. Pick a buddy. Don’t hang around with someone trying to gain weight or those without a care in the world. Find someone with the discipline you admire. It will rub off.
21. Think positively. Negative thoughts will hurt your chances of success. If you fall off the wagon, don’t worry about it. Pick yourself up and get back on.
22. Eat an apple, 2 bananas, or other fruit in the morning.

It’s not as tempting to each junk in the morning (for most people), fruit provides energy to expend calories, and you’ll eat less for lunch.

Bob Dylan Time Out Of Mind Rock Music CD Review

Very talented Rock artist Bob Dylan has released him latest CD titled Time Out Of Mind and Wow! It's good.

Time Out Of Mind opens with a great track, Love Sick, that I suspect will be heard on radio stations everywhere, and deservedly so. It really is a very nice track.

One of the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you’ve got one of Bob Dylan’s most impressive releases ever.

If you’re a Bob Dylan fan this is a CD your collection flat cannot be without. In fact, this is one of those CDs that you don’t even have to be a fan of Dylan, or even Rock to know is good. It’s just good music. Period.

While this entire CD is really very good some of my favorites are track 2 - Dirt Road Blues, track 3 - Standing In The Doorway, and track 9 - Make You Feel My Love

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - Love Sick. Good stuff!

Social Respect and the Blogosphere

Much the same kind of treatment exists in the world of blogging. Except instead of being judged quickly by 12 year olds, a bloggers ideas and popularity are judged by a cast of thousands from all walks of life and all around the globe. Popular bloggers range from the socially graceful to the socially awkward, but their words are valued by a much larger audience.

Blogs (short for "web logs") are collections of articles typically centered around a subject area posted by an individual or group of individuals. In the beginning these web logs were intended to communicate simple change information for the host site. They were not a destination in and of themselves.

Since the beginning, these "blogs" have become sources of rich commentary, biting cynicism and good humor. Many blogs are casual musings of the site owner. But to a few, writing blogs has become a full time job -- and to a growing few, a very well paid full time job.

Take for example, Kevin Kelly`s Cool Tools. kk.org began as a place for a well respected author and social commentator to post information on tools he liked to use -- kitchen tools, garden tools, gadgets, etc. Now, Cool Tools is a trusted source, a place folks can go to research the "best of the best." Other popular blogging sites have similar stories. Jalopnik.com, Engadget.com, Instapundit.com just to name a few. Blogs are typically written for people who know the site owner personally, but they have grown to make experts out of these folks -- folks whose opinions and words are validated by the community of the internet.

Which brings up a great feature of the new generation of blogs: accountability and peer review. In the scientific community, peer review is of utmost importance. When a researcher makes progress on an important medical advance, for example, the progress is verified by other researchers in his or her field. The same is with blogging, except in addition to other experts in the field, the blog content is verified by the internet community at large through comments or other blogs. Blogs in effect police themselves. If many people find the information in a blog useful and true, the blog gets promoted, praised and referenced.

So, can folks really make a living writing blogs? Oh yes. Through advertising and traffic and the magic of advertising services such as Google, blog sites can rake in copious amounts of money. If a person is a respected blogger, traffic to his or her site can generate hundreds or thousands of dollars per month in ad revenue. Using tools such as Google AdSense and AdWords, the blogger can imbed links to related sites. Readers visit the blog, notice the ads that are related to the article they are reading and click.

Album-Review

Dion
Son Of Skip James

It's a common trait: Artists who made their names within later, hybridized genres such as soul, funk or in Dion’s case, rock 'n' roll have a habit, in later years, of returning to the source: The blues. Following the surprise success of last year's Bronx In Blue - wherein the New York legend payed homage to the twelve bar format without which his own brand of doo wop would not have existed – Mr DiMucci repeats the formula. But does the world need another slice of re-heated standards?

The reason Bronx In Blue succeeded was down to two things. One: Dion's music always contained a healthy dose of r 'n' b - he famously played the Newport festivals - so his matured vocals in no way struggle with the grittier format. Two: The stripped back approach coupled with a genuine sense of 'street' actually gave something new to hoary old chestnuts like Robert Johnson's "Crossroads". For these reasons alone we should welcome Son Of Skip James. It's every inch the equal of its predecessor.

From the electric blues of Chicago's Chess label (Chuck Berry's "Nadine" and Willy Dixon's "My Babe") to the Mississipi mire of Sleepy John Estes ("Drop Down Mama") and Johnson ("Preachin' Blues" and "If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day") via Bob Dylan, a couple of worthy originals and of course Skip James himself, DiMucci shows who's boss. His voice has authority and the recording's simple dynamics of acoustic, drums and keys is purity incarnate.

His own contributions (especially the spoken "Interlude (Dylan Story)") mange to encapsulate both his standing in his hometown, and his love of both God and the Devil's music. Simplicity this affecting takes years to pull off. This is why for years those in the know have been singing the praises of this man who has made a mark in everything from rock to folk. Son Of Skip James is one for both longtime fans AND blues afficianados alike…

Profile

A resourceful offspinner with a high action, and a useful, hard-hitting batsman, John Bracewell's strike rate of a wicket every 82 balls was very respectable for a spinner in the 1980s, when the art was virtually dead. He took three six-fors, all of them in New Zealand wins, the most famous of which was at Auckland in 1985-86. Bracewell's 6 for 32 helped the Kiwis to a victory that made them the first side to beat Australia in two series in one winter, and he became the first New Zealand spinner to take a ten-for. He could belt the ball too, and at Sydney earlier in the same winter he bashed 83 not out in a last-wicket partnership of 124 with Stephen Boock. Bracewell went on to coach Gloucestershire, inspiring them to a series of one-day trophies at the turn of the century. He returned to New Zealand, as the national coach, in September 2003. He guided New Zealand through a moderately successful period and took them to his first World Cup as coach with momentum having won the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy for the first time. After the 2007 World Cup, where New Zealand finished semi-finalists, he was give a two-year extension as coach.

2009 ICC Women’s CWC Announced

Cricket Australia has appointed Eugenie Buckley as Tournament Director of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2009 to be hosted by Cricket New South Wales. Eugenie starts on 7 January 2008 and will initially be based at the Cricket Australia Melbourne office for the planning phase of the tournament.

A qualified lawyer, Eugenie has just completed a six-month contract with the ICC where she assisted in finalising the ESS media rights deal and commercial program as well as the staging of the World Twenty20 in South Africa.

Prior to cricket, she worked in soccer for FFA and was closely involved in the establishment of the A-League and Australia’s participation in the FIFA World Cup in Germany 2006. Buckley has also worked in rugby union, including as the Head of Legal and Commercial when the ARU staged the Rugby World Cup in 2003.

“I’m very excited to take on this new role and I’m really looking forward to the challenges of putting together a successful ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup,” she said.

“Working previously with the ICC, FFA, FIFA and the ARU, I’ll draw on my experience from working with those organisations which should help in our efforts in helping to develop women’s cricket in Australia.

“We really want to showcase a fantastic tournament comprising the best female cricketers from around the world and leave a legacy to continue to develop and improve the game for women, not just in Australia, but also internationally.

“We want to present a tournament which will allow the players to play in the best possible environment.”

Buckley will establish a Tournament Organising Committee which is proposed will comprise a representative from each Cricket Australia department to ensure the success of the Tournament.

“We will initially assemble a really good working team and work very closely with the host state, New South Wales, to make sure we deliver a very successful tournament,” Buckley said.

Music, Style, Fashion, Clothing, Collaborations And Conceptions 1969

Glimpsing a pair of blue crystal cufflinks sparked my memory bank taking me back to 1969 and a hit song by Tommy James and the Shondells titled "Crystal Blue Persuasion". Tommy James and The Shondells were also one of the first acts to experiment with Music Videos of their hits starting with "Mony Mony" in 1968, thirteen years before MTV.

Some may argue the side of Michael Nesmith, one of the Monkees who is also credited for conceiving the idea for MTV. He was the first to win an Emmy award for a music video "Rio". According to history Michael got the idea while touring Australia. En route, driven by curiosity, he visited an outback town, the back of beyond, the whoop whoops, beyond the black stump, down under. And while in a pub with no beer, an unlikely character recognised him as the Monkee with the woollen hat.

This made Mike realise the power of media and thus began the idea of music videos. He made Elephant parts, and experiment, now con-cult, which later inspired the "Friday Night Live" TV series, the birth place of comedians like Chevy Chase, John Candy, Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd. An aside, Michael's mother invented Tipex and sold the rights while electronic typewriters were still hot for $50,000,000.

I recognise the man for his multi talents, no doubt, but equally for his unusual collection of designer silk ties. Not just the for choice of styles but the way he wore them at a length about 4 to 5 inches above the belt line, like they did in the thirties. He can be seen consciously displaying his collection during many appearances on the Monkees TV series, his music videos and PR photo shoots. One in particular caught my attention; it was what appeared to be a Texas landscape, with characteristic cactus etc.

TJ and company began writing and producing their own records. Their first project, released in early 1969, was the unforgettable CRIMSON AND CLOVER album which, in addition to going multi-platinum, spawned three more monster hits for the group: DO SOMETHING TO ME, CRIMSON AND CLOVER, and CRYSTAL BLUE PERSUASION.

Listen carefully to TJ music; this was techno pop in its infancy, 10 years ahead of its time. The CELLOPHANE SYMPHONY album featured the newly developed Moog Synthesizer, a prelude to the VC3 and eventually computerised keyboards.

Also in the 60's cufflinks peaked. Swank were making 12 million pairs a year. Even though these were aimed at the lowest end of the market, retailing for an average of $2.50 a pair, that still adds up to a lot of men wearing cufflinks. These days the figure is closer to 200,000, but cufflinks are making a strong comeback with gross sales having increased consistently over the last ten years

MTV was born and traditionally hosted pop music shows like Countdown and Top of The Pops died a rapid painful death.

Music lovers, do you remember "The Alan Parsons Project"? Well Alan Parsons made is debut as second engineer along side Beatles producer George Martin in January while recording "Get Back" and Paul McCartney actually played base and some drums with The Steve Miller Band.

The same year (1969) George Harrison left the Beatles, and I left school aged just fifteen years and one day. I bought my first Jaeger sport Jacket and have been a fan of theirs ever since, a year later I discovered Harris Tweed and so began a life of indulgence in the art of fashion, now experiencing the joys of reward selling fashion accessories on line, I've rubbed shoulders with Timothy Everest and hope to do the same in person with Vivienne Westwood. Eventuality; "six degrees of separation" I believe it.

I'm still a big fan of Jaeger, there is no tweed as fine as Harris and I'm continually impressed with Westwood's endurance and her ability to subvert from with in.

It's all about collaboration, after all what would Bob Dylan be without his associations with The Band, Bob Knoffler, The Heart Breakers, Mick Taylor and Rick Bloomfield. He employed them to produce the music styles he visualised.
