Ex-Sugababe Mutya Buena on Big Brother
Ex-Sugababe Mutya Buena has walked out of the Celebrity Big Brother house just hours after Tina Malone was evicted.
Mother-of-one Buena, 23, left after saying she did not want to spend another day away from her family.
She had been nominated for eviction, along with outspoken Liverpudlian Malone and had threatened to go anyway if she was not picked.
But the "Shameless" actress was ousted by the public after receiving 39% of the vote.
Family reasons
The pair, along with TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson and former Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton, had faced the chop.
But when they found out Malone was leaving, Buena said: "No way am I staying a day longer, I've already told them I don't care what I lose.
"If they want to fight me they can. I'm not unpacking my suitcase and that's it. I'm going."
Afterwards she went to the Diary Room and said she had been thinking about leaving for several days.
Buena, who has a three-year-old daughter Tahlia-Maya, left at 2338 GMT on Friday.
She said: Thank you for the experience and making me realise what is important!
"I'm after a good night's sleep and want to go home."
Malone, who plays Mimi Maguire in the Channel 4 drama, screamed "Yes!" when her name was announced.
The 46-year-old told presenter Davina McCall the experience had been "cathartic" and she had been brought in to play the role of the "fat bird".
Malone said she was "incredibly relieved" that she was out and admitted she was fond of using strong language - something she gained a reputation for in the house.
She said she had toned down her personality for the show but added: "I use expletives not because I have a lack of vocabulary but because I am very passionate. I actually like them."
'Intimidated'
She had been nominated by Heaton, former A1 singer Ben Adams, and Austin Powers star Verne Troyer.
Heaton said she felt "intimidated" by the outspoken actress and accused her of creating a bad atmosphere in the house, while Troyer said she was "full of herself".
The eviction comes as media watchdog Ofcom confirmed it was investigating complaints about the behaviour of 1990s rap star Coolio on the reality show.
He has been accused of bullying female housemates, including one occasion where he teased Heaton about being in love with fellow contestant Ben Adams - reducing her to tears.
Meanwhile, Terry Christian has moved into second favourite position to win this year's series - with odds of 7-2, according to Ladbrokes.
Austin Powers star Verne Troyer is still the bookmakers' choice to win, on odds of 8-13.

BBC Sound of 2009: White Lies
London rock trio White Lies have come second on the BBC's Sound of 2009 list, which features the best bands and singers to watch in the next 12 months.
One act from the top five is being unveiled every day this week, counting down to Friday, when the number one will be revealed.
While Coldplay and Arcade Fire have been writing and recording albums in churches, White Lies sound like they've recently emerged from a crypt.
Their doom-laden rock is full of references to plane crashes, murders, funerals, kidnappings and nervous breakdowns.
Even their most romantic song - new single To Lose My Life - has the refrain: "Let's grow old together and die at the same time."
And it's taking a toll on the band...
Vocalist Harry McVeigh says performing the group's bleak songs in concert can be "pretty draining".
"It's not always the most uplifting," agrees bassist and lyricist Charles Cave.
Reviewers seem to agree, too. Last October, the Guardian's Maddy Costa said watching the band was like living through "a horror movie in which a pre-pubescent choirboy, radiating innocence, becomes possessed and starts singing in a rumbling bass dredged up from five fathoms deep".
But, counters Cave, White Lies are not "dark people".
"It's really important for us to maintain a level of humour on tour," he says. "Because if we lived through the songs, we'd be basket cases."
Indeed, the trio - completed by drummer Jack Lawrence-Brown - are surprisingly upbeat in person, sharing a relaxed bonhomie that stems from having been childhood friends in west London.
They finish one another's sentences, correct each other's mistakes and joke that Cave should write a song called Butt Out to persuade McVeigh to give up smoking.
But there is no disguising the fact that White Lies take being in a rock band very seriously indeed.
They killed off their previous art-rock incarnation Fear Of Flying in 2006 and chose the name White Lies because, like their new miserablist sound, it represented something "seemingly innocent" with "very dark undertones".
Their conversation is peppered with references to the "integrity" of their lyrics and the importance of "working in isolation".
In fact, the group spent half a year labouring over their first five songs, and practiced for three months before their debut gig.
That sparked a record label bidding war, which eventually led to the band signing to Fiction records - home to Elbow and Snow Patrol.
Almost inevitably, this sparked a backlash before the band had released so much as a guitar riff, with one blogger complaining the group were "contrived" as a "PR man's dream".
As a result, the group are now wary of being tipped as the next big thing.
"I don't think there really should be lists that predict people's success," says Cave.
"I think we'd all rather turn up next year and win a bunch of awards for the album that we've made."
Foreboding
All the same, Cave is "very confident" in the band's debut (also called To Lose My Life), which is a lean, muscular rock album full of stadium-sized guitar lines and deep, foreboding vocals.
It has already been compared to 1980s gloom rockers Echo & The Bunnymen, Joy Division and The Teardrop Explodes.
"I genuinely think that the only real similarity is a foreboding overall sound and the fact that Harry sings in a baritone," protests Cave.
In any case, McVeigh believes the comparison is flawed "because in most of the songs the chorus is up an octave".
"There are some songs which I actually struggle to sing, because they're so high. But people pick up on the fact that a lot of the verses are very low and deep."
If the band have a formula, it consists of dark, portentous verses which build slowly to a euphoric chorus.
But the music does not come easily. "We won't finish a song if we don't think it's going to be really good," says Lawrence-Brown.
"We never write for b-sides. There's only 10 tracks on the album."
The band's writing skills were severely tested when they were forced to come up with "five songs in three weeks" in order to finish their record.
"It was really stressful," says Lawrence-Brown. "But the best songs on the album were written in that period.
"You can hear that nervous energy. To Lose My Life, which is the next single, is really instant and that came together in a few hours, basically."
The group reckon they became "more confident" as a result - but the experience hasn't punctured their perfectionism.
"Eventually, we'll get to the point where we're able to have a couple of months in the studio," says McVeigh.
"I think that'll probably be a massively creative time for us."

Film restoration- Mission possible
All film deteriorates, end of the story. The 1962 epic How the West Was Won is a case in point.
The last 46 years have not been kind to the reels of film making up the multi-Oscar winning epic - the colour has faded, the landscape is marred by dirt and scratches, and there are strange vertical lines in every shot.
Ned Price is part of Warner Bros technical operations team and he said he is usually dealing with films which are turning to "powder".
"I'm dealing with film which is dehydrated, shrunken and buckled," he said. "As that happens the film shrinks and warps at an inconsistent rate.
"We're now working on digital techniques to actually record it as it moves and morphs and then digitally, after the fact, sort of stabilise the image itself."
Rewind time
For all film studios, it is important that old classics look pristine when they are resold on DVD and Blu-ray.
The digital remastering process begins by scanning the reels of film, frame by frame at 2,000 pixels across, about the resolution of high definition TV.
At this resolution the machine can scan 18 frames a second, meaning the film moves through the scanner at about two thirds of the true speed. Every single frame can generate 13MB of data.
Increasingly, the studios are scanning at 4,000 and even 6,000 pixels across, in order to prepare the films for even higher resolution.
Scanning at these resolutions generates immense amounts of data - a typical 4,000 pixel film will take up at least 12TB, before any work is done on it.
Luckily, Warner Bros has a rack of machines which provide one petabyte (1000 terabytes) of storage.
Blemish spotter
One of the first people to see the scanned film is Cathy Quiroz, who spends her days looking for dirt and scratches in every single frame of film.
It is a semi-automated process - she spots the spots and the computer then borrows pixels from the frame before and after to mend the blemish.
Considering what is involved, it may be tempting to program a computer to take over from Ms Quiroz completely.
But Bill Baggelaar, a Warner Bros engineer, said the human touch is still very much needed.
"We can use computers to automate the process of dirt and scratch removal but we find that people tend to do a better job," he said.
"In The Wizard of Oz the computers wound up removing Dorothy's slippers from the shot entirely because they sparkled and were different on every frame. We wound up having to put them back into the shot."
Cinerama bother
How the West Was Won was more difficult than most to restore - three times as difficult in fact.
In order to dazzle audiences with super-wide vistas, the movie was filmed on three cameras positioned side-by-side, and then the resulting three rolls of film were stitched together and run through three adjacent projectors.
It is an effect called Cinerama and it has given colourist Ray Grabowski something to really get his teeth into.
Each frame is 6,000 pixels wide and since the three rolls of film have all aged differently, each third of a frame has faded or warped to a different degree.
Sitting at a desk that could have been ripped out of the Starship Enterprise, Mr Grabowski uses colour curves, scopes, and his keen eye to match the colour and contrast of each part of the frame.
"The first thing we'll do is adjust contrast to even out the blacks and whites so they're not clipped or just a weird colour," he said.
"From there we'll start to enhance the picture with colour saturation. We'll also work on skin tones, because those are very important."
The stitches between the three parts of the image also need to be removed. Using techniques familiar to the photoshoppers among us, he blurs the offending area of the image using a particular shaped mask.
Digital future
Digital restoration is certainly breathing new life into old timers, but will today's films ever need the same treatment?
More and more films are being shot digitally and even though most are still shot on film, these are routinely scanned to digital in order to edit and add CGI.
Carolyn Giardina of The Hollywood Reporter said many in the industry feel "film negative is still the only proven archival medium".
"With digital cameras there are films now which don't have any elements in film," she said.
"So there is enormous concern when they're looking into digital archiving. They feel none of the digital techniques are proven at this stage of the game."
Updated effect
It must be tempting to use computers for more than just clean up - maybe even to improve old special effects that are less than convincing by today's standards?
Chuck Dages, who works in Warners' emerging technologies department, said they were able to remove the strings operating the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz.
"Bad special effects are different than correcting or changing the story. In some instances it's just a natural thing: now we can do it, let's do it," he said.
The debate about how much technology should be used to improve on old masters is one that is likely to grow in the future.
Right now, it means that we can meet the Wizard with no strings attached, and Dirty Harry is not quite so dirty.

A debut performance with Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan is something any Bollywood actress would want to do. Kareena after being in the industry for 10 years gets the opportunity to work with Aamir in the film 3 idiots. While Katrina and Priyanka still haven't got the chance to work with him!
Another added feather in Asin's cap is her next venture with Salman in London Dreams. Vipul Shah the director with a magic touch is said to directing her.
This director is the one behind Akshay's transformation from an ordinary Bollywood hero to a superstar. Asin who is a good actress is supposedly going to be a threat to all the actresses in bollywood who cannot act!
This southern beauty is definitely going to make a place for herself in the north as well, especially after the viewers are craving to see new actresses after Rani and Preity,who are no longer in the league!!
Asin has also made the cover of Vogue even before the release of her Hindi debut film. One actress who is already facing the Asin threat is Jiah Khan. Asin being Aamir's favourite is getting all the publicity while Jiah is completely neglected.

Young people have embraced me: Mallika
Mallika Sherwat has just returned to Mumbai after a globe trotting spree.
The actress arrived in Mumbai a couple of days ago from Malaysia where she was invited as a guest speaker at the Global Brand Forum 2008, which was held in Kuala Lumpur last week.
Mallika was a part of an expert panel where she shared her thoughts & comments with personalities like renowned Hollywood filmmaker Oliver Stone & Dato' Farah Khan, President of The Melium Group, which is into the retailing and brand managing of international lifestyle and fashion labels.
The actress impressed everyone present at the discussion with her insightful & original views about the exciting challenges and opportunities facing the movie business and the impact of Indian films in brands and business.
The discussion was moderated by none other than celebrated international TV interviewer Riz Khan.
Says a delighted Mallika; "It was a huge surprise for me to be invited to the global forum along with Oliver Stone - What do we have have in common, I asked myself.
I guess for better or for worse we both have our own brands - and as Oliver Stone says - people either love or hate his films, but certainly have a strong opinion about him, his politics and his films."
I guess its the same for me - there are young people around the country who have embraced me, and on the other hand there are lots of people in the country and in the film industry and in advertising who think I'm too controversial, radical etc., for their liking", she adds.
"Besides that he has a genius who has achieved so much and I've just begun my tough climb. But to share the same stage with someone who's made JFK, Platoon, Natural Born Killers and U Turn - All I can say is Wow", she says visibly excited.

Romanic Dinner
One evening a man walked into a fast-food chicken place and bought a nine-piece bucket of chicken. He took his chicken to the park for a romantic dinner under the moonlight with his lady.
Upon reaching into the bucket, however, he received a surprise. Instead of chicken he discovered what was apparently the restaurant's night deposit - some nine thousand bucks. The young man brought the bucket back to the store and asked for his chicken in exchange for the money.
The manager, in awe of the young man's honesty, asked for his name and told him he wanted to call the newspaper and the local news station to do a story on him. He would become a local hero, an example of honesty and morality that would inspire others!
The hungry man shrugged it off, "My date's waiting. I just want my chicken."
The manager's renewed amazement over the young man's humility almost overwhelmed him. He begged to be allowed to tell the story on the news. At this the honest man became angry with the manager and demanded his chicken.
"I don't get it," the manager responded. "You are an honest man in a dishonest world! This is a perfect opportunity to show the world that there are honest people still willing to take a stand for what is right. Please, give me your name and also the woman's name. Is that your wife?"
"That's the problem," said the young man. "My wife is at home. The woman in the car is my girlfriend. Now let me have my chicken so I can get out of here."

Ameesha and Kanav: Lost in Love

The Gujju babe's acting career may not be at an all time high but it's her personal life that's been more in the news off-late.

Aishwarya makes up with Sanjay Leela Bhansali
She has patched up with her 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' and 'Devdas' director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
The inside buzz is that she's been trying that for a long time. Quite understandably so! After all, many have felt and said that he's one director who brings out the best in her.
Well, that seems quite a correct analysis considering the fact that even though her films with others like 'Dhoom 2' and 'Guru' have done well; she hasn't really walked away with all the accolades.
The icing on the cake is that the venture will also be on a grand scale like 'Devdas'. Moreover in the movie she's opposite Hrithik Roshan with whom her on screen chemistry simply rocks.
Not surprisingly Ash on her part is quite grateful to the director who has given her two of the biggest films of her career.
She doesn't really care about the fiasco that 'Saawariya' was. If all goes well, the film will go on floors by the middle of next year
Bhansali has finally got over the sorrow he felt after his poetry in motion-'Saawariya' flopped. That movie was slammed by audiences and critics alike.
By the way, SRK's loss is Hrithik's gain.
The buzz is that the director was quite angry at the actor for making fun of 'Saawariya' at a film award function and calling it a 'blue' film. The news is that he's sworn never to work with SRK again.
As for Ash, she and The Bachchans just celebrated the 70th birthday bash of her sick father.
She managed to take some time off from the jungles of Kochi where she is currently shooting for Mani Ratnam's biggie 'Raavan'.

Madonna .A-Rod Share Turkey
Rumor has it the pair plans to spend Thanksgiving together at Alex Rodriguez’s place in New York.
Could Madonna and A-Rod be stepping out as a couple? Well, more like stepping in.
Access Hollywood broke the story after receiving a copy of an email from Rodriguez’s ex Cynthia to a friend. The email reads, “My 6-foot-3, 220-pound soul-less, soon-to-be ex-husband is abandoning his kids on Thanksgiving to be with Madonna … She called and he ran on her command back to New York City ... Gross!”
And who’s on the guest list? According to Page Six; Madonna, her kids Lourdes, Rocco and David and their mutual manager, Guy Oseary will attend the holiday feast at A-Rod’s Manhattan apartment.
Cynthia filed for divorce from her New York Yankee husband last July after five years of marriage while Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie just received a preliminary divorce on Friday.

Kareena:I want to get married and have children with Saif
Bebo has recently opened up more in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE magazine and has talked in detail about family approval, marriage, kids and the challenges of being in love.
She's said, "I want to get married and have children. I would do anything to keep a relationship going. For me, time is a very precious commodity and I'm always there for Saif.
And that says a lot. It's very easy to talk about fidelity, loyalty and swimming the seven seas but considering the lives we lead, I think the most important thing in a relationship is the amount of time you can spend with each other."
She's made it clear that she has had no problems with Saif being married before. In fact she respects Saif's ex wife Amrita a lot!
She adds, "Not really. I respect the fact that Saif was married before and has two lovely children. I have been a fan of Amrita Singh.
haven't met her ever but I know her through her films. For me, she'll always have a place of importance in his life because she is Saif Ali Khan's first wife and the mother of his children. And, I've told Saif this.

Aamir loves Kareena's hot bod
The religious workout schedule is paying rich dividends for Bebo.
The very talented Aamir who's her co-star in '3 Idiots' has confessed that Kareena has a ravishing body.
The actor said this in a recent interview, "Kareena has a great body. She is a fitness freak and her devotion towards her workouts has definitely made an impact on me."
Aamir usually keeps to himself during the shoots but he has become close to Kareena. It's all because of the common interest (fitness) that they share!
Aamir is impressed with her dedication and he wants people to take her as an example to religiously stick to a workout regime.
Thanks to tedious workouts and dieting, Kareena created a lot of buzz with her super slim body in 'Tashan' (though it didn't really help the cause of the film). Aamir is doing the same with his great physique in the promos of 'Ghajini'.
And there were many who thought that Aamir can never have that kind of a body!

Karan Johar finds Shilpa Shetty the hottest
He adds, "We finally zeroed in on Shilpa because she has the best body in town. She has done a fantastic job but credit also goes to choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant and music director Vishal Shekhar. Shilpa's number will be the introductory song along John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan."
Tarun Mansukhani who is making his directorial debut with Dostana too was impressed by Shilpa's professionalism. He says, "Shilpa was comfortable wearing anything for the song. We were to shoot the song in seven days but completed it in four days flat."
Shilpa agreed to be a part of Dostana immediately, not only because it was a Karan Johar production but also because it had her favorite team of film crew members such as – Manish Malhotra as the stylist, Mickey Contractor for the make up and Latika for her hair.

Hello Hello
Wait, there's one more hiccup. The screenplay, credited to Atul Agnihotri and Chetan Bhagat, lacks the power to hold your attention from start to end, barring a few stray moments in the second hour.
Based on Chetan Bhagat's book 'One Night @ The Call Centre', Hello makes an attempt to peep into the lives of those working at call centres, but things are presented in such an amateurish manner that it fails to cut ice.
Perhaps director Atul Agnihotri wanted his second directorial venture to be a complete departure from stereotypical movies, but, believe it or not, there's hardly any story to tell in the first hour. Defining character sketches of the principal players should constitute maximum 15 odd minutes of the film. You don't devote your entire first hour to it.
Post interval, there's some movement in the story, but not enough to take the film to a different level. Even the culmination is so filmy. Suddenly, everything seems to be going right for the call centre personnel. It's a screenplay of convenience.
Hello talks of the events that happen in one night at a call centre. Shyam (Sharman Joshi) is losing his girlfriend because his career is going nowhere as he trudges his way around in a call centre. His girlfriend, Priyanka (Gul Panag), also works at the call centre, but her mother (Bharti Achrekar) wants her married to a wealthy NRI.
An aspiring model, Esha (Isha Koppikar), is hoping for the break that seems to be eluding her... Varun aka Vroom (Sohail Khan) loves Esha, but she's more focused on her career!
Radhika (Amrita Arora) is constantly at the receiving end of her mother-in-law. Even her husband (Arbaaz Khan) is having an affair... A beleaguered grandfather, Military Uncle (Sharat Saxena), has been barred from interacting with his grandchild!
The screenplay tends to get so amateurish at times that you actually want to ask the writers, Hello, do you know the basics of screenplay development? Also, the call centre personnel look more like a bunch of college kids, while the Americans, calling up call centre executives to sort out their problems, come across as nincompoops.
Saddled with a poor screenplay, there's not much that director Atul Agnihotri can do to salvage the show. Sajid-Wajid's music is pleasant. The Salman song at the very outset, 'Bang Bang', and 'Karle Baby Dance Dance' are energetic. Sanjay F. Gupta's cinematography is alright!
Salman Khan looks haggard, as if he has been woken up from his sleep. The eye bags and double chin are too evident.
Besides, the actor has been given main prominence in posters/billboards, but the fact remains that he's hardly there for a song and scene at the start, a brief scene at the interval and a scene and promotional video at the end. Katrina Kaif looks angelic, but even she has a 5-10 minute role.

I no longer blow my own trumpet: Kareena
Nursing seriously sore throat, Kareena cheers herself up by informing that Saif might be visiting her in Ladakh for her birthday.
"I get the feeling that he's going to surprise me on my birthday. I know he'd want to. So yes, I'm pretty sure we'll be together on my birthday," she says with a sigh and gives Saif full marks for being an understanding boyfriend.
"He never complains about the lack of time between us. He knows this is the best time of my career. After Jab We Met the roles are just getting so much more interesting. Saif is extremely supportive. Besides he's very busy himself. So we snatch whatever time we get together."
Kareena says she has no time for anything besides work. "Such is my life these days.I've no time for family friends…or even for love.
Even the few hours that I have between schedules I use to shoot for endorsements, or whatever. So yes this is the most rewarding time of my life. But I miss my time with my mom, my sister and niece," sighs Kareena from Ladakh on the eve of her 27th birthday.
"I'm here in Ladakh for one of the most important films of my career Idiots. It can't get any hotter than Aamir Khan and Raj Kumar Hirani."
Throw Kareena into the dish and you have a real appetizer, I tell her.
Kareena laughs modestly. "I'm not saying that. I no longer blow my own trumpet. But it does feel good to be here shooting with such a brilliant team. I can't think of a better way to bring in my birthday.
But at the moment I'm feeling very under the weather. I landed here in the cold in Ladakh from the heat of Delhi and my throat has gone really sore. But work will go on."
As for the birthday on 21 September she'll have to celebrate it without family. "Mum can't brave it to Ladakh in this weather.
This was the day the ghastly bomb blasts in Delhi.
"In fact," shudders Kareena. "I was in Greater Kailash (the area where one of the bombs went off) in the morning of the blasts. It is so disturbing when such a thing happens right where you are. Why should anyone want to harm normal law-abiding peace-loving people?"
Looking forward to being together on her birthday, Kareena could possibly be getting a new Saif Ali Khan film for her birthday.
"He does want me to be in his next production Agent Vinod. But for me to agree to be in it both he and his partner (Dinesh Vijeyan) will have to plead on bended knees after not having me signed for their first film."
Drona is my biggest, my best: Abhishek Bachchan
In terms of economics, both are expensive films. Plus, the careers of Abhishek Bachchan (DRONA) and Imran Khan (post JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA) are at stake. Will DRONA live up to the humungous expectations?
"It's my biggest and best film so far," Abhishek Bachchan tells me. He's supremely confident this time. "I don't speak like this, do I? But DRONA is different. It's the most expensive film I am associated with. Besides, Goldie (Behl; the director) has executed the subject remarkably," he states.
Abhishek and Goldie have got together after more than seven years (BAS ITNA SA KHWAB HAI was released in July 2001).
In between, in 2006, Goldie had plans of making a thriller with Abhishek, but decided on making an adventure fare instead. "Goldie was disheartened after his debut film failed. Later, he diversified into television; he wanted to make his company secure before he announced his next film," Abhishek reminisces.
Abhishek credits his directors for the (sterling) performances he has delivered in films like YUVA and GURU (Mani Ratnam) as also SARKAR and SARKAR RAJ (RGV).
"If at all DRONA works -- and I hope it does -- Goldie should get the credit for it. He has worked very, very hard. I am sure, the Indian audiences haven't seen an adventure film like DRONA before," he says confidently.
Abhishek has worked in the DHOOM series as also SARKAR and its sequel. There's talk that a sequel to DRONA is in the offing.
"Oh yes! Goldie has written so much in the intervening period that he's ready to take the DRONA series forward. In fact, the possibility of a sequel can easily be explored," he adds.
